Cox Machine, Machine Shop and Welding Shop, Searsmont Maine
About Us........

Cox Machine was started as a family business out of a two car garage in
Morrill, Me. back in the mid 60's with basically just a welder, cutting
torch, and a drill press. In the next year or so, the building was doubled
in size and a lathe, a milling machine, and a few other machines added.
We did repair work for many of the local farmers and wood cutters. In
1973 we put up a new 50' x 80' steel building on rt. 3 in Searsmont, Me.
at our present location where we now have an additional 25' x 25' x 2
floor storage building where we keep the compressed gas cylinders
that we now sell for Advantage Gases and Tools.

Today the company is still owned and managed by Jim Cox. Jims son
Kyle has been full time with the business since the spring of 2006.

Together the Cox's do everything from repairing broken construction
equipment to building polished stainless yacht parts, from making a
new hose for an excavator to rebuilding a hydraulic pump on a tree
shear, from brazing a piece of cast iron to tig welding a bronze handrail,
and from mig welding a barrel of parts and pieces together into
weldments to welding something together in the field with the gas
driven welder.

The team here at COX machine, is very well rounded with their
experiences, and would like to build your trust in our workmanship.
Please feel free to come see our work and stop by to say hi.

OUR LOGO

More years ago than I like to think, back when I was in machinist school,
we had a NC (numerical control) or (tape) operated vertical milling
machine.  I thought it was pretty high tec for it's time.  Problem was that
it was pretty labor intensive to program it for most things.  It would do
some simple functions such as straight lines or combinations of
straight lines by pushing a few buttons and switches.  Well, me being
one to try and get out of something as easy as I could decided to write
my name with it by using block letters, because I did not have to
program it to do so.  Then decided to put a line under it (again, because
it was easy to do).  The way it came out was with rounded outside
corners and square inside corners.  We later adopted this for of
company logo.  In recent years we moved the line under our name up
and connected it to the letters.
